Product Instructions
Wakefield Premium Biochar
6″ Pots: A 4-quart bag of biochar can fill approximately 12 six-inch pots.
10″ Pots: A 4-quart bag of biochar can fill approximately 3 ten-inch pots.
- Prepare the Pot: Ensure your pot has proper drainage holes. Place a layer of gravel or small stones at the bottom for improved drainage.
- Mix the Soil: In a separate container, mix 1 part biochar with 9 parts potting soil.
- Fill the Pot: Fill the pot with the soil-biochar mix, leaving about an inch from the top.
- Planting: Place your plant in the pot, fill in around the roots with the soil mix, and gently press down.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting. For the first week, water regularly. After that, check soil moisture regularly as biochar retains moisture well.
4′ x 8′ Raised Bed: For a raised bed that is 4′ x 8′ with soil about 10 to 12 inches deep, you will need approximately 2 cubic foot bags of biochar to achieve a 10% mix.
- Prepare the Bed: Remove any weeds and debris from the bed.
- Mix the Soil: In a wheelbarrow or other container, mix 1 part biochar with 9 parts raised bed soil mix.
- Fill the Bed: Fill the bed with the soil-biochar mix, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- Planting: Plant your seeds or seedlings as per the planting instructions.
- Watering: Water the bed thoroughly after planting. Check soil moisture regularly as biochar retains moisture well.
4′ x 8′ Area: To cover a 4′ x 8′ area mixing the biochar about 6 to 10 inches deep, you will need approximately 1 cubic foot bag, making biochar about 10% of the soil mix.
- Prepare the Area: Remove any weeds and debris from the area.
- Dig the Soil: Loosen the soil to a depth of 6-10 inches using a garden fork or tiller.
- Mix the Soil: Spread the biochar evenly over the area.
- Incorporate Biochar: Mix the biochar into the soil using a garden fork or tiller until well combined.
- Watering: Water the area thoroughly. Check soil moisture regularly as biochar helps retain moisture.
New Lawns (10′ x 10′ Area): For a new lawn area of 10′ x 10′, mixing biochar into the top 2 to 4 inches of soil, you will need about 1 cubic foot of biochar.
Existing Lawns (2′ x 2′ Area): For repairing a 2′ x 2′ area of an existing lawn, aerate and mix biochar into the lawn at 1/2 to 1 inch deep. You will need approximately 1 four-quart bag for this area.
- Prepare the Area: Remove any existing grass or weeds from the area.
- Dig or Aerate the Soil: For new lawns, loosen the soil to a depth of 2-4 inches. For existing lawns, aerate the soil to a depth of 1/2 to 1 inch.
- Mix the Soil: Spread the biochar evenly over the area.
- Incorporate Biochar: Mix the biochar into the soil using a rake or tiller until well combined.
- Seeding or Sod: For new lawns, plant grass seeds or lay sod as per instructions. For existing lawns, overseed if necessary.
- Watering: Water the area thoroughly after applying biochar. Check soil moisture regularly as biochar helps retain moisture.
