Biochar Blend for Cactus & Succulents
6″ Pots: When used as 100% soil or soil replacement, a 1 cubic-foot bag of Biochar Blend for Gardens & Raised Beds can fill approximately 8 six-inch pots. (When mixed 50/50 with other soil, a 1 cubic-foot bag will fill about 16 six-inch pots.)
10″ Pots: When used as 100% soil or soil replacement, a 1 cubic-foot bag of Biochar Blend for Gardens & Raised Beds can fill approximately 2 ten-inch pots. (When mixed 50/50 with other soil, a 1 cubic-foot bag will fill about 4 ten-inch pots.)
- Prepare the Pot: Ensure your pot has proper drainage holes. Place a layer of gravel or small stones at the bottom for improved drainage.
- Mix the Soil: If using as a 50/50 mix, combine 1 part biochar blend with 1 part potting soil in a separate container.
- Fill the Pot: Fill the pot with the biochar blend or the soil mix, leaving about an inch from the top.
- Planting: Place your plant in the pot, fill in around the roots with the soil, and gently press down.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting. Check soil moisture regularly as the blend retains moisture well.
4′ x 8′ Raised Bed: For a raised bed that is 4′ x 8′ with soil about 10 to 12 inches deep, you will need approximately 2 cubic foot bags of biochar to achieve a 10% mix.
- Prepare the Bed: Remove any weeds and debris from the bed.
- Mix the Soil: If using as a 50/50 mix, combine 1 part biochar blend with 1 part existing soil in a wheelbarrow or other container.
- Fill the Bed: Fill the bed with the biochar blend or the soil mix, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- Planting: Plant your seeds or seedlings as per the planting instructions.
- Watering: Water the bed thoroughly after planting. Check soil moisture regularly as the blend retains moisture well.
4′ x 8′ Area: To cover a 4′ x 8′ area mixing the biochar about 6 to 10 inches deep, you will need approximately 1 cubic foot bag, making biochar about 10% of the soil mix.
- Prepare the Area: Remove any weeds and debris from the area.
- Dig the Soil: Loosen the soil to a depth of 6-10 inches using a garden fork or tiller.
- Mix the Soil: If using as a 50/50 mix, spread the biochar blend and existing soil evenly over the area.
- Incorporate Biochar Blend: Mix the biochar blend or soil mix into the soil using a garden fork or tiller until well combined.
- Watering: Water the area thoroughly. Check soil moisture regularly as the blend helps retain moisture.
