Using A Biochar “Soil Conditioner”… Isn’t It Just Biochar?

USDA Certified Biochar From Wakefield Biochar

It’s completely intentional that we call our Biochar product a Biochar ‘Soil Conditioner’. Let there be no doubt that the Wakefield Biochar Soil Conditioner is 100% biochar. We don’t add anything to it. It is USDA Certified Biomass at a tested and verified 97% carbon.

If you want a mix you should get the Biochar “Planting Mix” or “Potting Mix”.

There is a lot behind the phrase ‘soil conditioner’ that we think is important to the education of how to use biochar. If we just left it as biochar in the name it’s a bit of a disservice to the customer. Biochar needs to be used with some kind of organic material to get the natural process of rebuilding your soil started. And, it most certainly isn’t the same as a top soil or compost that you could potentially just plant seeds directly into it. It is literally a material that will condition your soil for improved crop production and soil health.

Farmer Phil Thinks About Using Biochar In His Garden

As we introduce biochar to the public the best practices of how to apply it will be more widely known. In the meantime, it’s important to take every chance we can to educate on how to use the product and why it is important. So, when you see “Wakefield Biochar Soil Conditioner” you can be 100% confident that we are offering 100% biochar in the box. And, you will also know that when you apply biochar to the soil it is not meant to stand alone. It must be mixed into your soil as an amendment to the natural earth you are turning over with your shovel.
